AllFive XP Common Problems
Before contacting Bongosoft for assistance, please check whether the answer to your question is below.
I am getting a virus warning or "not found" message relating to the file "MMKRandomPool.cox".
MMKRandomPool.cox is a file hidden inside the game, which is used for generating the random dice rolls. This file has (as of December 2010) started to be incorrectly identified as a "trojan" by some anti-virus software, including Avast and Norton. The game has always been verified virus-free. My guess is that someone somewhere has recently written a virus whose code is similar in places to parts of MMKRandomPool.cox, and the anti-virus programs have all just been updated to combat it. If you create a rule within your anti-virus software to allow MMKRandomPool.cox to run, the game should continue to work.
The game crashes.
The hardest sort of problems to diagnose, these are usually caused by errant drivers or hardware on your computer. If you have installed new graphics or sound hardware yourself, make sure you have downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer?s website, and ensure you are using the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft Windows Update.
I am having trouble editing player initials or other game settings from the in-game options, or one or more of the statistics or record scores is wrong for some reason.
In the game's installation folder (default C:\Program Files\AllFive XP), you will find a text file called allfive.ini (the '.ini' part of the filename may be hidden depending on your Windows settings). This file stores all the settings and statistical information in a fairly self-explanatory manner and may be freely edited should you wish. Settings which are either 'on' or 'off' are represented by the values 1 and 0 respectively. Note that record scores are NOT editable this way, since they are stored securely in a separate file.
Additional Statistics are coming up with zeros and other wrong entries.
To have AllFive XP reset all your additional statistics and options without touching the rest, load the file allfive.ini from the game's installation folder (default C:\Program Files\AllFive XP) and delete the line ProbHighlightLevel='. The next time AllFive XP starts it will prompt you that it is updating the files from Beta 2 or earlier, and this should solve any problem with Additional Statistics.
The length of certain MP3 tracks is detected incorrectly by the game, causing them to end early or fail to advance automatically.
This unfortunately seems to be a problem with the internal "object" used to handle MP3 files. It happens only extremely rarely, with MP3s from certain sources, but at this time there is no fix. Sorry.
Probabilities are displaying incorrectly or not at all.
Check that you have the "Display probabilities" option enabled under Options > Other Options. If it is enabled and incorrect probabilities are displayed, please contact me giving as much detail as possible.
Some non-Western-European characters are not saved properly when used in player names.
AllFive XP is not a Unicode application, which means it saves all text in the ANSI format. While ANSI contains support for most Western European accented characters, for example é and ö, it does not support those from Arabic, Eastern European, or Far East alphabets. To control how Windows handles non-Unicode applications, and thus possibly force AllFive to save in Unicode format, go to Control Panel > Regional Options > Advanced, and ensure that the correct language is selected for your region.
